The United States will benefit most from stopping gas supplies from Russia through Ukraine to Europe, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said. He recalled that US President-elect Donald Trump has already threatened EU countries with introducing tariffs unless they start buying more American oil and gas. The current agreement on the transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine expires at the end of 2024, and Kiev has repeatedly stated that it does not plan to extend it. Last week, Zelensky also rejected the possibility of transiting Russian gas to Europe via Ukrainian territory after December 31, even if it is purchased by third countries. In response to Zelensky's rudeness, Fico said he is not Zelensky's servant, whose only duty is to help Kiev without expecting anything in return. Russian President Vladimir Putin received Fico, who was on a working visit to Moscow, in the Kremlin on December 22, the Kremlin reported earlier. Fico previously said his visit to Moscow was a reaction to the Ukrainian leader's words that he was against any gas transit through Ukraine.

US Will Benefit Most From Halt of Russian Gas Supplies to EU, Slovak Prime Minister Says
BRATISLAVA (Sputnik) - Ukraine's Zelensky previously accused Fico of being interested only in Russian energy resources and allegedly wanting to help Europe stop using American gas. Zelensky also accused Slovakia of allegedly participating in "dubious schemes" to pay for Russian gas, calling on Slovak security forces to pay attention.
The United States will benefit most from stopping gas supplies from Russia through Ukraine to Europe, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said.
"What is behind this absurd decision [to stop the transit of Russian natural gas through Ukraine] by President [Volodymyr] Zelensky? Just look at which countries benefit most from reducing the European Union's dependence on gas from Russia. The answer is very simple: first and foremost, it is the United States," Fico said in a video address published on social media on Friday.
He recalled that US President-elect
Donald Trump has already threatened EU countries with introducing tariffs unless they start buying more American oil and gas.

In response to Zelensky's rudeness, Fico said he is not Zelensky's servant, whose only duty is to help Kiev without expecting anything in return.
"Mr. Zelensky, I understand the pressure you are under. I understand that for selfish political reasons the West gives you almost everything you ask for, but I am not your servant, who cannot express his own opinion and who is obliged only to help you and not expect anything from you," Fico said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin
received Fico, who was on a working visit to Moscow, in the Kremlin on December 22, the Kremlin reported earlier.
Fico previously said his visit to Moscow was a reaction to the Ukrainian leader's words that he was against any gas transit through Ukraine.
