In an interview with Sputnik Africa, Cameroonian filmmaker Diane Manuela Sike Doumbe has drawn attention to Russia's solidarity with the people of Donbass and its historical ties to Africa in her documentary "Russian-Ukrainian Conflict: The Hidden Truth."
The film explores parallels between Russia’s actions in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its role as a counterforce to Western imperialism in Africa.
"Russia has always been there when Africa needed it," Doumbe said.
She highlighted Russia’s support during Ethiopia’s resistance to colonization and its ongoing partnerships with African nations, including the Central African Republic and other members of the Alliance of Sahel States.

Doumbe's documentary also connects Russia’s involvement in Donbass with the principles of Pan-Africanism, presenting a narrative of unity and resistance against external pressures.
Doumbe noted that Russia's struggle in Donbass aligns with Pan-African concepts, highlighting solidarity as a key theme.
“Through this film, I want to give a concrete example of solidarity with Pan-Africanism,” Doumbe said. “Russia has decided to show solidarity with all those who feel Russian, which offers a valuable lesson to Pan-Africanists about defending collective interests.”
The documentary invites viewers to consider how Russia’s actions resonate with broader struggles for self-determination and unity, positioning it as a partner for nations striving to resist external domination.
