BEIJING (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin was on a visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 16-17, the Kremlin said.

Russia expects Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the country in 2025, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov told Sputnik on Friday.

"For the next year, in consecutive order, the visit of the Chinese president to Russia, the 30th anniversary regular meeting of the heads of government, and the 11th meeting of the interparliamentary commission in China are expected," Morgulov said in an interview, adding that plans for bilateral events were being developed.

Important international events in the Russian-Chinese agenda for the next year will include the meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State in China and the SCO Council of Heads of Government in Russia, the diplomat noted.
