In the wake of unprecedented unilateral Western economic sanctions in recent years, the Russian government has encouraged local industries and companies to reorient trade toward growing partnerships with countries in the Global South, including Africa and Latin America.
Russia's Ministry of Industry and Trade is planning to allocate subsidies to Russian trucking companies for a 50% discount on transportation to Latin America and Africa, the head of the ministry, Anton Alikhanov, said in an interview with Sputnik.

"As for the Latin American direction, it acts as a priority for us within the framework of another mechanism of a new federal project to 'roll out' cargo flows on 'new' international transport corridors," Alikhanov said.

He added, "The support model provides for a 50% discount for Russian carriers of industrial products to Latin America and Africa for their services to Russian exporters."
Alikhanov noted that this mechanism will increase the competitiveness of Russian companies in areas far from Russia. In addition, it will allow increasing Russia's cargo turnover with priority countries due to the reduced cost of sold products and expand the geography of Russian exports.
