MOSCOW (Sputnik) - During the shelling, Russian air defense forces shot down several HIMARS missiles, the acting governor Russia's Kursk Region said.
Six people have been killed, including a child, in Russia's Rylsk as a result of Ukraine's missile attack, acting Governor of Russia's Kursk Region Alexander Khinshtein said on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Khinshtein said that the Ukrainian armed forces launched a missile attack on the city of Rylsk. Later, the Russian Investigative Committee said Friday that it has opened a criminal case on terrorist attack charges over the Ukrainian strikes on the city of Rylsk.
"According to preliminary information, six people were killed, including one child. Ten people have been injured, including a 13-year-old child, and were taken to the Central District Hospital of Rylsk. All of them are under medical supervision. Their injuries are classified as minor," Khinshtein said on Telegram.
Emergency services continue to work at the scene and experts are assessing the damage, providing assistance to the victims and the families of the victims, the acting governor said.
The Ukrainian attack caused damage to social infrastructure objects, including, the buildings of the local cultural center, sports and recreation center, teachers' college, school, and a fire station, Khinshtein added.
Meanwhile, the Kursk nuclear power plant continues to operate in normal mode, the plant's press service said. It added that the radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the area of its location is at the level corresponding to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed natural background values.
