French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to address the nation on Thursday after his government resigned, the BFMTV broadcaster reported. Earlier in the day, the leader of the left-wing France Unbowed party, Mathilde Panot, demanded Macron's resignation. Late on Wednesday, the majority of lawmakers in the French National Assembly supported the vote of no confidence against French Prime Minister Michel Barnier, put forward by the left-wing France Unbowed party. The motion was backed by 331 lawmakers of 577. The no-confidence vote forced Barnier to submit his resignation while his government was disbanded. This became the first French government to resign following the no-confidence vote since 1962 and the shortest-living government in the history of the Fifth Republic.

Macron to Address Nation After No-Confidence Vote Against French Gov't, Reports Say
08:28 05.12.2024 (Updated: 08:37 05.12.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - President Macron will address the nation at 19:00 GMT from the Elysee Palace, the BFMTV broadcaster said, adding that it remains unclear whether the president will announce the new prime minister.
French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to address the nation on Thursday after his government resigned, the BFMTV broadcaster reported.
Earlier in the day, the leader of the left-wing France Unbowed party, Mathilde Panot, demanded Macron's resignation.
"Macron created this chaos. He is responsible for impoverishing the French, destroying education and health care. The vote of no confidence today defeated Macron's very policies. His policies in favor of the richest must end," Panot said.
Late on Wednesday, the majority of lawmakers in the French National Assembly supported the
vote of no confidence against French Prime Minister Michel Barnier, put forward by the left-wing France Unbowed party. The motion was backed by 331 lawmakers of 577.
The no-confidence vote forced Barnier to submit his resignation while his government was disbanded. This became the first French government to resign following the no-confidence vote since 1962 and the
shortest-living government in the history of the Fifth Republic.
