Last Thursday, the Chadian government informed the nation of its decision to terminate the security agreement with France aimed at strengthening security and defense cooperation between the two nations, signed in 1976 and revised in 2019.
The French military presence was a "sword of Damocles" hanging over the heads of the Chadian people, while Russia really supports Chad and other Sahel countries, president of the pan-African organization
Nekemando Bishop Amane Mamate told
Sputnik Africa, commenting on
the rupture of the defense agreement between N'Djamena and Paris.
"They are leaving behind suffering, pain and misery. We have resources on the ground, underground, that need to be exploited. But these resources were considered to be France's strategic reserves," he noted.
For its part, Russia can offer a "win-win" partnership, as the example of the Sahel countries shows, the activist added, welcoming the authorities' decision.
"We have always said that Russia is welcome. Look at countries like Mali and Niger. They are also developing their countries. They are building nuclear power stations, factories, employing people. And it is Russia that is helping them," he pointed out.
No matter what the French authorities say, it's better to cooperate with Russia, the speaker emphasized.
On Sunday, Chad terminated an outdated security agreement, the country's
President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno confirmed, addressing the nation.
