China's zero-tariff policy for least developed countries took effect on Sunday, a Chinese state media reported.

"Africa is the continent with the largest number of least developed countries, and China's zero-tariff measure aims to drive industrial cooperation upgrading through large-scale trade, enhance China-Africa cooperation, and encourage more countries from the Global South to jointly pursue modernization," Yang Baorong, a researcher at the China-Africa Institute, told the Xinhua news agency.

In addition, Christopher Mutsvangwa, Zimbabwe's ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front party Politburo member, said in an interview to the news outlet that the decision made by the Chinese government would develop China-Africa mutual relationships in trade.
According to the report, the measure highlights China's commitment to share development chances with nations globally through particular acts, and also addresses the development requirements of countries from the Global South.
According to the Chinese government's statement from September, the treatment is planned to achieve common development and extend unilateral opening to the least developed nations.
