The G20 is now divided into five groups. Each group elects one of its members to chair the group for one year on a rotating basis. For example, South Africa is in the group together with Russia, India and Turkey.
South Africa intends to put the need to adopt a new formula for electing the chair of G20 on the agenda of the group after the country assumes the presidency on December 1, the country's diplomat in charge of G20 coordination, Masotsha Mnguni, said at a joint briefing by South Africa's Foreign and Finance Ministries, as Russian media reported.
The G20 bloc needs to have a balance between developed countries and developing countries representing the Global South, he emphasized.
