Uruguayans will go to the polls on Sunday to vote in the second round of the presidential election. 08:32 24.11.2024 (Updated: 15:34 25.11.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Yamandu Orsi of the left-wing Broad Front coalition secured 43.9% of the vote in the first round on October 27, while his main challenger, Alvaro Delgado of the ruling centrist National Party, came second with 26.7% of the votes. The turnout stood at 89.6%.
Uruguayans will go to the polls on Sunday to vote in the second round of the presidential election.
Left-wing candidate Yamandu Orsi and Delgado of the ruling centrist National Party are leading a field of 11 candidates seeking to replace outgoing President Luis Lacalle, who has a high approval rating but is constitutionally barred from seeking a second consecutive term.
"The conditions are there for us to take over... to make the changes the country needs," Orsi said at a final campaign rally on Wednesday.
