Ethiopia plans to export about 100 megawatts of electricity to Tanzania via Kenya, a Western news outlet said. Electricity will be generated in Sodo, southern Ethiopia, then delivered to Suswa in Kenya, and after that to Arusha in northern Tanzania, the news agency said, citing chief executive at Kenya Electricity Transmission Co. John Mativo. The report added that the agreements between Ethiopia and Tanzania, later between Kenya and Tanzania, were signed in this regard. Earlier, the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) said that the country’s energy exports reached $140 million in the 2016 fiscal year, marking a 16% increase from the previous year. Ashebir Balcha, the CEO of EEP, during a press briefing, attributed the growth to the increasing demand for energy, particularly from data mining, which contributed $27 million to the total export revenue. Ethiopia's 2016 fiscal year finished on July 7 this year.
