The budget increase was announced amid insecurity affecting the sub-region. Like its neighbors, Benin has faced an increase in terrorist threats from jihadists in recent years, particularly in the north of the country.
Benin will spend more than 118 billion CFA francs in fiscal year 2025 to improve the West African country's defense capabilities amid its ongoing fight against terrorism. This amount is 18% more than last year, according to the budget presented by Benin's Minister of National Defense, Fortunet Alain Nouati, to the budget committee of the Beninese parliament.
