According to the latest data, at least 16 people were killed in the accident, with 88 rescued. A four-story building collapsed in the Kariakoo area of Dar es Salaam city on Saturday, reports said earlier.
On the third day of the rescue efforts after a building collapse in the Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam, the country's President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, ordered to continue the operation.
"President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Mr. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa to add 24 hours of rescue in the collapsed building in Kariakoo area," read the statement by the Directorate of Presidential Communications issued on Monday.
The president stressed that although the rescue operation has a specified 72-hour window (during which there is a chance of finding survivors), the efforts must continue on the fourth day as all the nation still hopes there may be survivors.
As the government prioritized rescuing people trapped under the rubble, it led to the delay in investigating the cause of the collapse; however, all the necessary measures will be taken, the president said in a video message to the nation.

"In the aftermath of this tragic event, I direct the Prime Minister to lead a team of building inspectors to continue with a thorough inspection of all buildings in the Kariakoo area, so that we can obtain a comprehensive assessment of their structural conditions," a local media quoted the president as saying.
