The Senegalese ruling party African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (PASTEF) is leading in the snap legislative elections, a local broadcaster said. According to the report, around 7.3 million citizens had the right to cast a vote and choose the 165 deputies who will represent them for the next five years. The former president of the country, Macky Sall, congratulated the PASTEF for this victory. Amadou Ba, head of the opposition Jam Ak Njarin coalition list and candidate who came second in the presidential election last March, also warmly congratulated the PASTEF, adding that the success of the party reflects the will of the people.
