The ministry urged social media users to check the veracity of information before spreading inaccurate information that could inflame the nightingale and public opinion.
A video circulating on social media shows workers hammering stones into the Great Pyramid of Khufu, but Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities clarified that it is not damage but the work to remove modern materials.
"What appears in the video is the removal of modern, non-archaeological construction materials (mortar) that were applied decades ago to cover the electrical network used to illuminate the pyramid," the statement by the ministry read.
The aim of this operation is to modernize the lighting system without damaging the body of the monument.
The ministry also stressed its full commitment to its role in protecting and preserving
Egypt's archaeological and civil heritage.
