In order to protect the population, the Angolan government carries out disinfection of infected areas, traces contacts, and conducts epidemiological investigations, according to the country's Ministry of Health.
Angola's Ministry of Health reported the
first mpox case in the country on Saturday.
"The Ministry of Health informs the population that a case of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, has been confirmed in Luanda province in a 28-year-old woman of Congolese nationality and that she and her close contacts have been isolated in the facilities of the Specialized Center for the Treatment of Endemics and Pandemics," a statement by the ministry read.
The ministry also recommended frequent handwashing, avoiding contact with symptomatic individuals, using personal protective equipment, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, lymphadenopathy, and rash appear.
"The Ministry of Health continues to update the public on the epidemiological situation of this disease and encourages the public to remain calm and reassured that everything possible is being done to protect the health of our entire population," the statement added.
