The move comes as mobile operators across Africa are increasingly expanding into financial services, recognizing the large portion of the population without access to traditional banking.
State-owned operator Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) is preparing to challenge market leaders Orange and MTN by launching its own mobile financial services platform, Blue Money.
The company plans to launch Blue Money sometime in 2025, following a feasibility study that is expected to be completed this year.

"Blue Money will be launched very soon. We're finalizing studies around the regulatory environment and the market to be able to deploy," said Gilbert Ngono, Director of Cooperation at Camtel.

He added, "This year we're finalizing that part, and next year is really the year where we're going to see an acceleration and deployment of Blue Money."
Camtel's mobile financial services will be managed under its commercial unit, Blue.
