Earlier in March, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that the rampant violence in Gaza cannot be justified and must be stopped immediately.
Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu is set to call for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict during the upcoming Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, his office
announced on Saturday.
"Nigeria will also advocate for renewed efforts to revive the two-state solution as a pathway for lasting peace in the region," said presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
The annual summit, beginning on November 11, is held at the invitation of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. As a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Nigeria receives an invitation in that capacity.
Accompanying President Tinubu to
Riyadh will be a delegation of cabinet ministers, including those responsible for foreign affairs and information, as well as his national security adviser and the head of the security intelligence agency.
The health ministry of Gaza reported on Sunday that the ongoing conflict, lasting more than 13 months, has resulted in at least 43,603 fatalities and over 102,929 injuries.
