Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Passes Away, President’s Press Service Says
15:04 06.11.2024 (Updated: 17:04 06.11.2024) According to the statement of the president's press service, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja started his military career when he enrolled in the Nigerian Defense Academy in 1987. He played pivotal roles in numerous internal security operations, the statement noted.
"President Tinubu ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days in honor of the departed general. Earlier today, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces," the statement noted.
The press service added that Lagbaja died because of a serious
illness. According to the statement, he served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 2023 to November 2024.
In addition, the press service noted that President Bola Tinubu appointed Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede a new Chief of
Army Staff.
