African Leaders Congratulate Donald Trump on His Election Victory

After the release of preliminary data indicating his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump declared himself the 47th President of the United States during his address to supporters.
One of the first African leaders to congratulate Trump on his victory was Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
"I look forward to working together to further strengthen the relationship between our two countries during your term," he wrote on X.
Egypt's President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, also offered his "sincere congratulations" to Trump, expressing Egypt's eagerness to collaborate in establishing peace, ensuring regional stability, and enhancing the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, as well as their amicable relations between their peoples.
"The two countries have always presented a model of cooperation and succeeded together in achieving the common interests of the two friendly countries, which we look forward to continuing in these critical circumstances that the world is going through," he said.
Furthermore, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud applauded Trump on his "historic election victory." He also expressed anticipation for maintaining the robust collaboration and partnership between their two countries to promote peace, security, and shared prosperity.
Zimbabwe also extended its congratulations to Trump on his victory, stating that "the world needs more leaders who speak for the people."
"Zimbabwe stands ready to work with you and the American people to build a better, more prosperous and more peaceful world," Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa wrote on X.
In his congratulatory address, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his eagerness to sustain the strong and mutually advantageous partnership between the two countries across all areas of cooperation.
“In the global arena, we look forward to our Presidency of the G20 in 2025, where we will work closely with the US who will succeed us in the G20 Presidency in 2026,” he added.
Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe also extended his “warm congratulations” on Trump’s victory, saying that the new era presents a chance to strengthen the partnership between the two nations, grounded in mutual values of peace, progress, and respect for human rights.
"Your second accession to the presidency of the United States of America reflects the confidence of voters in your leadership and in your ability to guide your nation towards a prosperous future," he added.
Furthermore, Burundi's President Evariste Ndayishimiye offered his sincere congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump on his landmark election win and expressed his hopes for success as Trump leads America with determination and resolve.
Nigeria also joined in the congratulations. President Bola Tinubu looks forward to enhancing the relationship between Nigeria and the United States as they navigate the intricate challenges and possibilities of today's world.
“President Tinubu looks forward to strengthening the ties between Nigeria and the United States amid the complex challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world. […] The Nigerian leader trusts that President Trump will bring the world closer to peace and prosperity,” the Nigerian presidency said.
