Nigerian President Orders Release of Minors Detained During Protests in August

Protests against inflation and the increase in the cost of living in Nigeria began on August 1 and continue so far with varying intensity. The demonstrations were very active in the first 10 days of August. According to local media, in those days, at least 30 people died during the protests.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered a release of the minors who were detained during the protests in August, Information Minister Mohammed Idriss wrote on X.

"Mr. President has ordered the immediate release of all minors arrested by the police," Idriss noted.

In total, 30-40 minors were reportedly arrested during the protests.
The minister added that President Tinubu asked to create a committee to examine all issues related to the arrest, detention, and treatment of the minors.
