The Pan-African Parliament, the legislative body of the African Union, was established in March 2004 with the goal to empower African peoples by involving them in the continent's economic development, integration, and decision-making processes.
The Pan African Parliament (PAP) sees Russia as its partner, Fortune Charumbira, President of the Pan-African Parliament, stated in connection with the start of the parliamentary session in Johannesburg.
There are no problematic issues in the interactions between Russia and the PAP, the politician said. He noted that this also applies to the current relations between Russia and Ukraine, stressing that the parliament represents a variety of viewpoints on global events; they do not view anyone as an enemy. The PAP, he emphasized, champions justice, human rights, and democracy.

Charumbira highlighted Russia's role as chair of BRICS this year, stating that the group is a key partner for the PAP. He acknowledged that the parliament and the people of Africa are aware of BRICS' policies and programs, emphasizing the benefits Africa derives from the association's efforts in economic management.
The politician expressed support for BRICS' emergence as a global economic center, noting the shift toward a multipolar world where power is no longer concentrated in one or two countries. He further pointed out that BRICS is focused on promoting the use of national currencies, a process that benefits Africa.
