MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On August 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine units launched an offensive to seize territory in the Kursk region; their advance was stopped, Russia's Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, said. He emphasized that the operation in the Kursk region would be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border.
The Ukrainian sabotage group, which tried to break into Russia's Bryansk region, consisted of about 10 people, the Russian National Guard said on Tuesday.

"The enemy's infantry brigade was promptly detected in the Klimovsky District during aerial reconnaissance by the border directorate of the FSB of Russia, the Russian National Guard and the Russian Defense Ministry... The group, with a total number of about 10 people, were hit by artillery from the Ministry of Defense and FPV drones of the Russian National Guard," the statement read.

On Monday, the Russian Security Service (FSB) said that an attempt to violate Russia's state border in the Bryansk region was prevented, four foreign mercenaries were eliminated, and part of the sabotage group was hit by artillery strikes.

Attempted Incursion of Kiev Mercenaries Into Bryansk Requires Firm Response, French Journalist Says
Brazilian historian Joao Claudio Pitillo told Sputnik that the recent attempted incursion into the Russian Bryansk region is another example of the use of terrorist methods in the absence of success on the battlefield by Ukraine and its American CIA supervisors.
The historian added that the use of such manpower shows that the CIA, US intelligence service, and NATO operational units are serious about stirring up trouble.
