Namibia's presidential elections operate on a two-round system, meaning a candidate needs a majority (over 50%) of the votes to win outright. To date, no Namibian presidential election has required a runoff.
Namibian presidential and general elections are due to be held on November 27, as per the president's announcement published on Friday.
"President Nangolo Mbumba has declared Wednesday, 27 November 2024, as a public holiday. This declaration has been made to facilitate the general election for the election of the President and members of the National Assembly," the Namibian Presidency stated.
In his address, Mbumba implored all eligible voters to grasp the chance to fulfill their democratic obligation by participating in the upcoming election with a strong turnout.
