ISTANBUL (Sputnik) - Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov told reporters in September that Turkey had applied for full-scale participation in BRICS. Later, Turkey participated in the 16th BRICS Summit that took place in Russia's Kazan from October 22 to 24.
The Turkish presidency’s Directorate of Communications dismissed on Thursday media reports suggesting that India opposed Turkey's bid to join BRICS as false.

"The claims published in some media that India is preventing Turkey from joining BRICS are false," Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office wrote on X.

The process of admitting new members to the group of the world's fastest-growing economies was not discussed at the BRICS' Kazan Summit in Russia or at its outreach event, which Erdogan attended, his office said.
German tabloid Bild alleged that India opposed Turkey's potential accession to the group of emerging economies, citing Ankara's friendly relations with India's long-term rival, Pakistan.
