Leaders from emerging economies gathered for the BRICS 2024 Summit in Kazan, Russia, alongside representatives from over 30 countries. Focused on strengthening economic cooperation, reducing inequality, and reforming global governance, this event aims to reshape global dynamics and foster a more balanced, inclusive world for developing nations.
The BRICS Summit will add momentum to multilateralism and enhance participation, particularly for developing nations in Africa and globally. This will usher in an era of a new international economic framework and foster a more equitable system that supports the growth and industrialization of weaker economies, opines Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, head of Department Political Science and International Relations, University of Abuja, Nigeria, during an interview with Sputnik Africa's correspondent.

"The BRICS as an organization promotes multilateralism; we expect deepening such multilateral spirit after this particular summit. We expect more involvement and inclusiveness, especially with effect, you know, upon developing countries, especially in Africa and around the world. This is one. Secondly, we're going to see more emergence of new international economic order in the sense that the BRICS countries are actually taking some majors, as well as a shift in the hitherto international economic system and order as we have all recorded to a more significant inclusive balance and just economic order within the global or international system. But the BRICS seemed to actually help other economies, especially in Africa and the countries of the [Global] South, to rediscover themselves as well as achieve their major economic goals," Ibrahim notes.
