MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In September, TikTok deleted several Sputnik accounts, including Sputnik Africa and its French edition, amid US accusations of election interference against Russian media. Earlier, Meta* deleted all Sputnik and RT accounts on Instagram and Facebook without the possibility of restoring them or appealing this decision.
US citizens were left without work after Washington imposed sanctions against Russian broadcaster RT and international media group Rossiya Segodnya, RT and Rossiya Segodnya editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan said.
"Of course, we had to close everything. People were left without work, and most importantly, these people are citizens of the United States," Simonyan said in an interview with Russian broadcaster NTV on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
She added that "we will look for other ways, and we will find them."
Simonyan also recalled that a large number of sanctions were introduced against her personally.
On September 4, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against Simonyan, two of her deputies, and several other employees of RT broadcaster. The US State Department, in a parallel move, tightened the operating conditions for Rossiya Segodnya, which is the parent media organization of Sputnik news agency, and its subsidiaries, designating them as "foreign missions." Under the Foreign Missions Act, they will be required to notify the department of all personnel working in the United States and disclose all real estate they own.
