MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Palestinian movement Hamas is ready to release two hostages with Russian citizenship as a matter of priority, but only as part of a prisoner exchange deal with Israel, Hamas political bureau deputy head Musa Abu Marzouk told Sputnik.
"We discussed another topic. The Russian side previously asked to release citizens with Russian citizenship who are being held by Hamas. They asked for the release of four, two of whom were civilians, we released them unconditionally, the remaining two are Israeli soldiers," Marzouk said.
He added that the remaining two Russian hostages are currently in Gaza, one of them is Alexander Trufanov.
"He is with Islamic Jihad. He is an army officer, he was captured during the fighting. And he will be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners who are in Israel," Marzouk said.

Marzouk noted that the second hostage is Maxim Kharkin.

"Maxim Kharkin is Ukrainian, at the time he was captured, he was not a citizen of Russia. His family came to Russia and obtained Russian citizenship for him so that Russia could help them release him. But he is not a civilian, he is a soldier, he served in the Israeli army," the official said.

Hamas will give them priority in the exchange with Israel "as a gesture of respect for our Russian colleagues," Marzouk said.
