For more than a decade, Nigeria has grappled with a wave of insecurity, fueled by the Boko Haram* insurgency and other extremist groups. These groups have engaged in numerous criminal activities, including the kidnapping of children and adults for ransom.
The Nigerian army conducted operations against Boko Haram, the Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP)*, and criminal gangs across various regions of the country in the past week, resulting in the deaths of 101 terrorists, according to Edward Buba, Nigerian Director of Defense Media Operations.
The military operations also resulted in the death of a Boko Haram commander, the liberation of 157 hostages, and the arrest of 182 terrorists. The army seized 71 weapons, two vehicles, and a large amount of ammunition.
