Over 350 People Detained in Burkina Faso Over Month on Suspicion of Espionage: Security Ministry
09:47 18.10.2024 (Updated: 12:37 18.10.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In September 2022, a group of military officers in Burkina Faso, led by now President Ibrahim Traore, removed the head of the country's transitional government, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who came to power in a coup eight months earlier.
More than 350 people have been detained in Burkina Faso in a month for "hostile surveillance" or "terrorist
espionage," Burkina Faso's minister of security, Mahamadou Sana, said.
"The security ministry would like to inform the valiant population that their patriotic contribution, combined with the professionalism of the security service, has yielded convincing results ... Between September 4 and October 4, citizens called hotlines with 726 applications. During the same period, the police and gendarmerie arrested 358 people for hostile surveillance and/or terrorist espionage across the country," Sana was quoted as saying by the Faso news portal on Thursday.
He noted that 63 people were
detained in the Burkinabe capital of Ouagadougou.
