WHO declared mpox a global public health emergency in August 2024 after an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that spread to neighboring countries. The disease spread to countries in central and eastern Africa.

According to the report, about 57 people got infected with mpox.

"The cumulative number of people sensitized on mpox at the POE is 366,838, plans are underway to deploy rapid response teams for comprehensive investigation and contact tracing," Muthoni said, as quoted by Nation.
