The UN Security Council must preserve what is left of its authority and impose a ceasefire in Gaza, stated Amar Bendjama, Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.Benjama accused "the Zionist entity" [Israel] of deliberately condemning Palestinians in Gaza to a slow death through starvation and a tightened blockade, preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid. He pointed out that only 52 trucks of aid reach Gaza daily.Algeria currently holds a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council and, in this capacity, pays particular attention to the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and in Lebanon.
