Cholera is a highly contagious disease transmitted through contaminated food and water. It can lead to sudden, watery diarrhea and, if not treated swiftly, can be deadly within hours in severe cases.
From January to September, Nigeria has reported 359 deaths caused by cholera, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said.
This figure represents a 239% increase compared to the same period last year.
Suspected cholera cases have also risen sharply to 10,837, up from 3,387 in the previous year, with the majority of cases affecting children under the age of five.
