MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Al-Tanf is a military base occupied by the US forces in 2016 and located 24 km west of the al-Walid border crossing between Iraq and Syria.
The Russian air force has destroyed two bases of Al-Tanf militants sheltering in remote mountainous areas of Syria's Homs province, Oleg Ignasyuk, the Deputy Head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, said on Sunday.
"Russian air strikes destroyed two identified places of deployment of militants who left Al-Tanf zone," Ignasyuk said.
Over 5,400 people have crossed into Syria from Lebanon over the past 24 hours due to the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country, the official added.
"In the past 24 hours, 5,426 people crossed the border of the Syrian Arab Republic from Lebanese territory through the checkpoints of Arida, Jawsiyah, Dabbusiyah, Jisr Qamar and Jdaidet Yabous," he said.
