According to Mozambique's ambassador to Russia, the country is dependent on foreign aid and former colonial powers. This hinders the development of an independent economy.
Through cooperation with Russia in agricultural development, Mozambique hopes to find a reliable strategic partner, the East African country's ambassador to Moscow, José Mateus Muária Katupha.
A Mozambican delegation is currently in the Russian Caucasus with a mission to explore the potential for cooperation with Moscow, said Katupha, who took part in the international forum "North Caucasus: new geostrategic opportunities."

Russia Has Key Role in Global Food Security & Agriculture in Africa, Sierra Leone's Envoy Says
The head of the diplomatic mission noted that this Russian region has excellent agricultural experts and added that he would like to see them come to Mozambique. The country is a producer of pineapples, macadamia nuts, and cashew nuts and could produce other items.
To develop the partnership, it is necessary for both countries to create investment mechanisms in the fields of food security and energy, stressed Mr. Katupha.
