Russia is a global powerhouse in the wheat market, holding the title of both the world's largest wheat producer and exporter. Wheat exports, which account for more than 60% of Russia's total grain exports, solidify its position as a world leader in this critical commodity.
According to the Russian agricultural watchdog subordinate institution, over 14.8 million tonnes of Russian wheat were exported to Africa in the first eight months of this year. These shipments were facilitated through ports located in the Krasnodar region of Russia on the Black Sea.
Key buyers of Russian wheat in Africa include:
Egypt
Algeria
Kenya
Libya
Sudan
This year, wheat shipments to the Gambia, Djibouti, and Ethiopia have also resumed. The first batches of Russian new crop wheat for food purposes were also shipped from Krasnodar ports to Congo and Eritrea.
