Uganda is poised to significantly increase its foreign exchange earnings with the recent signing of two protocols that open up new export opportunities to China.
The agreements will allow Uganda to export dried chilies and wild aquatic products, including Nile perch fillets and other fish products, to the lucrative Chinese market.
"The (second) protocol formalizes an agreement on the export of dried chilies, opening the door to one of the world's largest chili consumer markets," Ugandan Minister of Agriculture Frank Tumwebaze said.

The agreements will require stringent inspection and scrutiny by authorities in both countries to ensure the highest standards of food safety and quality. Tumwebaze emphasized the government's commitment to working closely with the private sector to meet the growing demand from China while maintaining high export standards.
"With the combined efforts of the ministry and the private sector, Uganda is well-positioned to meet the demands of the Chinese market while ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality in its exports," he said.
