In June, a Russian cultural center, also known as the Russian House, was opened in the Nigerien capital, Niamey. Moreover, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow is working on the possibility of opening a diplomatic mission in Niger to enhance cooperation between the two nations.
The Russian House in Niamey has opened an exhibition dedicated to the Nigerien physicist Abdou Moumouni Dioffo. Speaking to Sputnik Africa, several visitors to the event, which was inaugurated at the National Museum of Niamey on October 1, welcomed the initiative.
"It will allow the visibility of great personalities from our country who are unknown in the world," said one of the visitors, who had studied in the USSR.
"Now it's the return of Russia to Niger. I'm very satisfied, very happy," said another guest.
The Russian House is perceived "as a place of permanent dialogue and a tributary of our two cultures," said Amadou Abdramane, spokesman for the ruling National Council for the Defense of the Homeland (CNSP), who was also present at the exhibition.

Apart from that, Natalia Krassovskaya, the director of the Russian House in Niamey, said that "the people of Niger love Russia, and now they should get to know it too."
The center, located in Niamey's Koira Kano district, is currently organizing programs with the aim to provide more educational opportunities in Russia, the director told Sputnik Africa.
Here, young people will be able to receive training in physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, and Russian in preparation for higher education in Russia.
"It is very important for Russia to develop humanitarian ties between our countries. We see our main tasks in developing the interaction of our educational systems and in introducing Nigerians to the culture and history of Russia," Krassovskaya explained.
