The meeting reportedly took place in the wake of recent border confrontations between the two nations, with the South Sudanese army accusing the Ugandan People's Defense Forces of advancing into their territory.
On Saturday, discussions were held between General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces (PDF) in Uganda, and General Santino Deng Wol, the PDF in South Sudan, the Ugandan military announced.
The
focus of the meeting was on "regional security issues
of mutual interest," according to the CDF's office.
“The two military leaders acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Uganda and South Sudan, committing to further enhancing military-to-military relations,” it added.
Declaring that "we are one people," the South Sudanese commander emphasized the ties between Ugandans and South Sudanese citizens.
According to the press release, at the official dinner, Gen. Santino stated that he was astounded to see so many South Sudanese in Arua Park, Kampala, during one of his visits. He expressed his gratitude to Gen. Kainerugaba for the kind welcome and that he had gotten excellent treatment.
