In February, during a government hour session in the State Duma, the lower chamber of Russian parliament, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev announced that South Africa was interested in collaborating with Russia on peaceful nuclear energy applications.
South Africa is open to collaborating with various partners, including Russia, to build a nuclear power plant in the country, according to the country's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
During an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the international forum Russian Energy Week in Moscow, Ramokgopa emphasized the country's interest in collaborating with other nations on nuclear energy matters.

South Africa Strives for Bold Nuclear Energy Growth, Minister Says
Acknowledging that Russia is one of the major players in the world in the nuclear energy sector, the official emphasized that the country's decision on building a nuclear power plant will be based on a competitive process open to all potential partners, including Russia, South Korea, China, the US, and France.
Ramokgopa noted that South Africa will choose the partner that offers the best and most affordable solution.
