St. Petersburg hosted the Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum on 18-20 September, where hundreds of women gathered to discuss their unique role in society. AfroVerdict host brings you highlights directly from the forum with African delegates ranging from former ministers to businesswomen to activists.
Women "should be agents of change" instead of "victims of conflict around the world," according to Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, Member of the National Assembly of Tanzania and former Minister of Foreign Affairs.The mindset of women is selfless compared to the ambition of men, Mulamula believes. While men will prioritize their "positions of power," women care for the safety of the people.This view is supported by Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, former Minister of the Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, as well as Healthcare ministries. Women "should be agents of change" instead of "victims of conflict around the world," according to Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, Member of the National Assembly of Tanzania and former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The mindset of women is selfless compared to the ambition of men, Mulamula believes. While men will prioritize their "positions of power," women care for the safety of the people.
"Women don't think about themselves being generals. But the women are more concerned about children, who should be safe. The communities should be safe," the MP says.
This view is supported by Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, former Minister of the Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, as well as Healthcare ministries. She was also the only woman thus far to chair the African Union Commission.
"There would be no human beings without women. So, women from that position have an interest in stability in their family, in the community, and in the world," Dlamini Zuma believes.
