A Zimbabwean NGO, Citizens Against Economic Sanctions, has called for greater collaboration between Russia, Iran, and Zimbabwe to counter the impact of Western sanctions. Citing shared experiences of economic restrictions, the proposal aims to build stronger ties among these nations to resist external pressures.
Countries like Russia and Iran are defending their sovereignty and their people; hence they are faced with sanctions from the West, Martin Zharare, Executive Director of the Zimbabwean non-governmental organization “Citizens Against Economic Sanctions,” tells Global South Pole. He further asserts that Zimbabwe is also faced with sanctions as the Southern African country has remained steadfast in defending its sovereignty, which could serve as a model to other nations globally. Commenting on how these countries can work together, the NGO chief explains that there is a need to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including trade and military. He emphasizes the potential for these nations to support each other economically, sharing resources and expertise while also enhancing defense ties. Citing shared experiences of economic restrictions, the proposal aims to build stronger ties among these nations to resist external pressures.
Countries like Russia and Iran are defending their sovereignty and their people; hence they are faced with sanctions from the West, Martin Zharare, Executive Director of the Zimbabwean non-governmental organization “Citizens Against Economic Sanctions,” tells Global South Pole.
He further asserts that Zimbabwe is also faced with sanctions as the Southern African country has remained steadfast in defending its sovereignty, which could serve as a model to other nations globally.
"In Zimbabwe, we stood for our independence, we stood for sovereignty and today, since the year 2000, the people of the West, they came together, and they said let us destroy this country, Zimbabwe, because they are waking up and all Africa will follow. Not even Africa, all other countries who are under the imperialist hands of the Americans and the British will follow suit. But we have been resolute in our stance to say we will defend our land; we will defend our independence," Zharare stresses.
Commenting on how these countries can work together, the NGO chief explains that there is a need to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including trade and military. He emphasizes the potential for these nations to support each other economically, sharing resources and expertise while also enhancing defense ties. He asserts that Russia is poised to play a central role in this alliance.
"Russia is a first-world country. They are leading in industrialization. They are leading in agriculture. They are leading in aviation. They are leading in every sphere that every country is pursuing. And as such, we are expecting firstly we must band together militarily. So that we can defend ourselves," he says.
US Sanctions on Russian Media
Reacting to US sanctions on Russian media, the Zimbabwean sees the action as contradictory, given that the US often claims to promote freedom of speech globally. He suggests that there is a disconnection between the rhetoric and actions from Washington.
"Sputnik and its parent company [Rossiya Segodnya] are one of the biggest media companies in the world, who are disseminating the correct information to the world. And they [the US authorities] don't want that to happen. They only want their own version of information, which is disinformation and a poison to the world," Zharare reiterates.
