Hezbollah Says Responded to Pager Blasts by Striking Israeli Military Industrial Complex
09:12 22.09.2024 (Updated: 15:39 23.09.2024) BEIRUT (Sputnik) - Tensions between Israel and Lebanon have escalated after Israel started a military operation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The Israeli military and Hezbollah have been exchanging cross-border fire almost daily.
Fighters of the Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah have struck the Israeli military industrial complex Rafael north of the city of Haifa, the movement's press service said on Sunday.
"In response to the massacre conducted by hostile Israel in various areas of Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Islamic resistance fighters launched Fadi-1, Fadi-2, and Katyusha missiles at the Rafael military industrial complex located … in Haifa’s north," the movement said in a statement.
In turn, the
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday that the northern territories of Israel have been attacked with over 100 projectiles launched from the Lebanese territory overnight, adding that no injuries have been reported yet.
Earlier in the day, Israeli TV broadcaster Channel 12 reported that in the past few hours large areas of northern
Israel were subject to shelling by Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah. Alarm sirens sounded 11 times overnight in various areas in the north of the country, while at least three massive shillings were recorded.
“Following the sirens that sounded between 6:24 … 07:00 in numerous areas in northern Israel, approximately 85 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Some of the projectiles were intercepted, and fallen projectiles were identified in the areas of Kiryat Bialik, Tsur Shalom and Moreshet,” the army wrote on Telegram.
The Israeli rescue services are currently engaged in firefighting operations in the areas exposed to the attacks, the IDF added.
“Following the sirens that sounded at 4:48 and 5:10 in the Jezreel Valley area, approximately 20 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory. Most of the projectiles were intercepted, and the rest fell in open areas. No injuries were reported,” the army added.
From September 17-18,
pagers and walkie-talkies exploded in various parts of Lebanon. According to the country's health ministry, 37 people were killed and more than 3,000 injured as a result of the blasts. The Hezbollah movement and the Lebanese authorities blamed Israel for the incidents. Israeli authorities have neither confirmed nor denied their involvement.
