The 100-megawatt solar plant will add to Namibia's current power capacity of roughly 500 MW, reducing the need to import electricity from neighboring Zambia and South Africa, contributing to a more stable electricity tariff, and supporting Namibia's economic development. The project also promotes environmental sustainability by utilizing renewable energy sources, according to the NamPower managing director. The construction of the solar plant will be undertaken by China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co. Ltd. and Chint New Energy Development (Zhejiang) Co. Ltd. The project, funded largely by German development bank KfW, is expected to be completed within 18 months, with commercial operations commencing in the second quarter of 2026.
