NamPower, Namibia's state-owned electricity provider, is responsible for generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity across the country. The Electricity Control Board of Namibia oversees and regulates its operations, ensuring a reliable and safe power supply for all Namibians.
The 100-megawatt solar plant will add to Namibia's current power capacity of roughly 500 MW, reducing the need to import electricity from neighboring Zambia and South Africa, contributing to a more stable electricity tariff, and supporting Namibia's economic development. The project also promotes environmental sustainability by utilizing renewable energy sources, according to the NamPower managing director.
