MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Volodymyr Zelensky has ordered the dismissal of the country's air forces' commander, Mykola Oleshchuk, a presidential decree published on the leader's website on Friday read.
“To dismiss Oleshchuk Mykola Mykolaiovych from the post of the air forces commander of the Ukrainian armed forces,” the decree read.
The document does not provide any details related to the decision.
Later in the day, the Ukrainian armed forces said on Telegram that Lt. Gen. Anatolii Kryvonozhko was temporarily appointed as acting air forces commander.
The Ukrainian air force confirmed on Thursday that a US-made F-16 jet that Ukraine's Western allies had transferred to the country crashed just weeks after the first batch of such aircraft had arrived in Kiev.
According to Ukrainian lawmaker Maryana Bezuglaya, the F-16 jet's downing by a Patriot missile was the result of a lack of coordination among Ukrainian military units. The crash killed Oleksiy Mes, the pilot.
