The Republic of Congo Confirms 21 Cases of Mpox, Health Minister Says

Jean Kaseya, Director General of the Africa CDC, reportedly stated that the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the African country with the fastest spread of the mpox virus. He mentioned that recently, 1,000 new cases had been recorded in the DRC.
Twenty-one cases of mpox have been confirmed in the Republic of the Congo, Health Minister Gilbert Mokoki announced on state television on Sunday.
There have been 158 suspected cases this year, including two new cases last Thursday, he said.

The African Union declared a health emergency on August 13 due to the spreading mpox virus. This year, nearly 40,000 cases and over 1,400 deaths have been reported across 18 African countries. On August 14, the World Health Organization declared the mpox outbreak in Africa an international public health emergency.
