Nigerian security forces have released medical students kidnapped last week in the southeast of the country, the local newspaper Punch reported on Saturday.On August 16, more than twenty medical students and a doctor were reported kidnapped in Benue State. The students, from universities in Maiduguri and Jos, were traveling together to the annual conference of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students in Enugu, southern Nigeria, when they were attacked by armed gunmen.The operation was reportedly coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser and involved several security agencies, including the police, the state security service, and the military, with the support of the Benue state government.

"Twenty medical students who were kidnapped in Benue State have just been rescued," the local newspaper said, citing security sources.
