Burkina Faso has been facing a growing crisis due to escalating terrorist attacks, mainly by extremist groups. The situation has a direct impact on its neighboring countries, including Ghana. The border areas between northern Ghana and Burkina Faso are particularly vulnerable as refugees flee the conflict.
Dr. Obed Asante, CEO of Ghana Nuts Limited and International Oils and Fats Burkina, handed over a donation of 13 million FCFA (about $22,030) to Burkinabe refugees in northern Ghana on Tuesday.
According to the donor's representative, this gesture reflects his commitment and solidarity with Burkina Faso and its people, who are facing severe security and humanitarian challenges.
The spokesman also mentioned that Asante will offer a 1,000-hectare field to the refugees settled in Ghana. Asante further committed to providing agricultural inputs and purchasing their produce for his factories.
The Acting Manager of the Consulate General of Burkina Faso Tobignaré Jacques Gouba expressed gratitude to the CEO of Ghana Nuts Limited for his generosity, the state media reported.
There are an estimated 923 Burkinabe refugees living in Ghana's Savannah and Eastern Bono regions, fleeing terrorist attacks.
