MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The permanent missions of the Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to the United Nations said that the UNSC should take measures against Ukraine due to its support of terrorism in the Sahel region, according to a joint letter seen by Sputnik.
"Through this Joint Letter, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger strongly condemn the Ukrainian authorities' support and glorification of terrorism and call upon the Security Council to assume its responsibilities with regard to Ukraine's deliberate choice to support terrorism in Africa, particularly in Sahel region," the joint letter read.
In early August, the transitional government of Mali announced that it had severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine, and after that, the government of Niger followed the decision of the brotherly nation.
Earlier, nine Senegalese organizations condemned Ukraine’s support for armed groups in a statement, citing a video by Ukrainian defense intelligence spokesperson Andriy Yusov that confirmed Kiev's involvement in an attack on Wagner group in Mali.
They also criticized Ukraine for training militants in Africa and urged the international community to hold Kiev accountable.
In late July, Wagner group and Malian armed forces reported heavy losses after clashes with Tuareg militants. Following the events, Senenews reported that Mali and Mauritania were investigating Ukrainian military instructors' involvement with rebels in Mali.
