The Russian state scientific center Vector has assured the public that it possesses sufficient quantities of the "OrthopoxVac" vaccine, effective against mpox. This vaccine, developed by Vector in 2022, is based on a weakened smallpox virus and offers a high level of safety while providing protection against mpox, which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus family. In addition to the vaccine, Vector Center has also developed and registered a PCR test for the differential diagnosis of smallpox and mpox viruses. This comprehensive approach ensures Russia's preparedness for a potential outbreak.Despite the recent WHO declaration of a public health emergency due to the spread of mpox, the Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare announced that there is no immediate threat in Russia. They are, however, actively implementing measures to detect any potential cases of mpox.

The statements come as the WHO has warned that mpox, which is currently spreading in some countries in Central and West Africa, has the potential "to spread further across countries in Africa and possibly outside the continent."
The Russian state scientific center Vector has assured the public that it possesses sufficient quantities of the "OrthopoxVac" vaccine, effective against
mpox.
This vaccine, developed by Vector in 2022, is based on a weakened smallpox virus and offers a high level of safety while providing protection against mpox, which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus family.
In addition to the
vaccine, Vector Center has also developed and registered a PCR test for the differential diagnosis of smallpox and mpox viruses. This comprehensive approach ensures Russia's preparedness for a potential outbreak.
Despite the recent WHO declaration of a public health emergency due to the spread of mpox, the Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare announced that there is no immediate threat in Russia. They are, however, actively implementing measures to detect any potential cases of mpox.
